IN HIS DEBUT at Mount Panorama and with new Garmin sponsorship on the side of his BF Falcon, Tom Tweedie has shown what he's capable of in his first V8 Supercar start at Bathurst - it’s just a shame his potentially career-best result was taken from him by another drivers’ mistake.

Tweedie finished a strong 12th in race one and had elevated himself well into the top ten early in the second race before he was unceremoniously turned around at turn two by fellow first-year driver Chaz Mostert.

The car was too badly damaged – thanks to contact with the tyre barrier – to continue, ending his otherwise strong weekend on the spot.

The fact Tweedie was running so strongly was impressive given a mechanical issue earlier in the weekend left him with no laps to his name following practice.

Qualifying then became his Bathurst baptism-of-fire in a V8 Supercar, logging the 16th quickest time in the 29-car grid despite only getting four proper laps in a red-flag interrupted session.

He made rapid progress in the first race to score the top-twelve finish, before the incident in race two occurred and ended his promising weekend in the Garmin Falcon.

“I had nailed the start and beat Mostert into turn one, and then gained spots from Blanchard and Percat,” Tweedie explained.

“Unfortunately Mostert just launched me into turn two. I feel a bit robbed because we had a really strong car and were going to be on for a great result in the top ten.

“There was no way, in my opinion, he was going to pull that move off because you literally need to be overlapping with the car before you hit the brakes to make a pass there.

“Chaz had contact with a few guys all weekend so he’d better fix his head up before he goes to Sandown.”

Aside from the race two contact, Tweedie was pleased with the performances at Bathurst on his debut at the nations’ most challenging circuit.

“My car had good performance all weekend and I managed to work my way up to the top twelve in race one – all the while I was perfecting my laps and trying to catch the guys in front," he said.

“We had a few of the guys from Garmin out at the track on Saturday and I wanted to put on a good show for them. Huge thanks to Garmin for coming onboard this weekend and I’d love to continue this year with their support”

The non-finish drops Tweedie to 12th in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series standings, just three points behind David Wall and 90 outside the top ten – with two rounds remaining.

The next round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series will be held at Sandown raceway, with the V8 Supercars, in November.

Tom Tweedie is supported by Garmin, Race Fit, Tizzana Vineyards and Palm Trans and thanks Global Welding Supplies and Land Surveys for their past support at Qld and WA earlier rounds.
